The Holy Hour is a magnificent opportunity to make that inner silence in which the Lord speaks to us in a special way.
This is achieved in a variety of ways. The Holy Hour, prayed in Church, has the advantage of the presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, and the Church is the natural place for prayer.
The expression of love has no formal structure, although it may also be helpful in prayer to use scripture passages, written devotional prayers, litanies, rosaries, Stations of the Cross or other formal prayers.
…What to do during Holy Hour? That can vary. Just let your heart express itself.
But above all the Holy Hour is a dialogue where the privilege is to listen to the Lord Jesus who has so many wonderful things to transmit to us; it is our soul that needs to be filled with Him.
These moments of intimacy are necessary for the spirit.
All of them can be used to enter into inner silence.
Once communication with the Lord has begun, it is good to be attentive to listen to Him, to feel Him and to express our love, our admiration, our respect. It is necessary to open one’s heart to the Lord in order to let the feelings flow.
Let us remember Jesus in the Garden of Olives who asked his disciples to stay awake with him in prayer and when he returned he found them asleep and said to them ‘Could you not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation’. Wherever prayer is done, whether in a temple, in a chapel, in the midst of nature, or at home, the idea is to seek a moment of quiet, silence, peace and allow the Lord to speak to you especially.
On the third Thursday of each month the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the church of the Shrine. The Mothers and Josephites of the shrine take turns to keep vigil. The doors of the church remain open to all who approach.
