On Sunday, 22 February, coinciding with Josephite Sunday, the Saint Joseph of Montain Shrine in Barcelona celebrated its second burning of letters of the year 2026, a deeply spiritual event that brought together devotees from different parts of the world. More than 5,000 letters arrived at the Shrine with requests, thanks and testimonies addressed to Sant Josep, patron saint of families and protector of those in need.
The ceremony began with Sunday Mass, during which the intentions of all those who had sent letters were offered up. Afterwards, the Mothers and volunteers at the Shrine carried out the traditional burning of the letters, a sign of trust and abandonment into the hands of Saint Joseph. Fire, symbol of the Holy Spirit, lifts the supplications up to heaven and represents the purification of hearts that trust in divine providence.
This Josephite custom, kept alive for over a century, makes the Sanctuary of Saint Joseph of Mountain a unique place of pilgrimage in Barcelona, where devotion to the saint is expressed in a tangible and communal way. In fact, every year thousands of faithful visit the temple to pray, leave their letters or participate in spiritual activities organised by the Mothers of the Congregation of the Mothers of the Forsaken and Saint Joseph of the Mountain.
The Shrine invites all Catholics and devotees of Saint Joseph to join in this tradition in future editions, entrusting their petitions to the saint who, with his silence and fidelity, continues to guide families and communities on their journey of faith.
